Let's Unlock the Power of Light

We are SPIE Student Chapter University of Delhi at Acharya Narendra Dev College. We collaborate with colleagues, perform outreach in the community, develop professional and leadership skills, form partnerships with industries, and reward student members with industry-based experience and various grants. SPIE Student Chapter is a program started by SPIE, the International Society for Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers with an aim to provide undergraduate students to work beyond the classroom, futuristic and hands-on experience on whatever field of interest they may have pertaining to light.

Brief Overview

SPIE Student Chapter University of Delhi at Acharya Narendra Dev College Chapter was established in August 6, 2010. After 10 years, this chapter is a family of 122 student members. We hold weekly meetings where SPIE members get together to share their works, projects, researches and hold discussions on various topics related to Optics and Photonics.

 

The purpose of University of Delhi at Acharya Narendra Dev College SPIE Student Chapter is to promote optics and photonics among undergraduate students by providing valuable academic career development through conducting various events, workshops, competitions and activities. Our chapter has brought awareness among students at undergraduate levels with the importance of light-based technologies.

 
 

SPIE International Conference Attendees

Mr. Prince Sharma

This year (2020) Prince Sharma got selected from our Chapter for Officer's Travel Grant to attend SPIE Optics + Photonics International Conference 2020, scheduled to be held on 23rd August in San Diego, USA. He has two research papers abstracts acceptance 'Some fun pedagogical techniques to teach optics to students of all ages' and 'Android application for shading analysis and assessment of accurate solar energy potential'

Mr. Rohit Saini

Mr. Rohit Saini, BSc.(H) Electronics III Year student attended 2019 SPIE Structured Light OPIC (Optics and Photonics International Congress) programme along with SPIE leadership workshop conference from April 21- 26,2019. He was awarded the Officer’s Travel Grant to attend the SPIE Leadership workshop along with OPIC. He was a part of IoT-SNAP2019 International conference which was majorly about the modern technologies and many technical papers were presented there from leading companies and professors.

Mr. Chiradeep Das

The annual SPIE Optics + Photonics conference held in San Diego was attended by Chiradeep Das, B.Sc. (H) Electronics, III Year at San Diego, USA from August 19-25, 2017. He was awarded the Officer’s Travel Grant for attending SPIE Optics + Photonics Conference. He attended Leadership Workshop, talks on Metamaterials, Biosensors and Bioelectronics, workshops on inter-personal skills and CMOS imaging sensors and their applications and participated in Optics Outreach Games. He showcased a project titled “What a colourful World” which was very well received at the Optics Outreach games.

VISITING

LECTURER

Last year (2019), our Chapter invited honorable Prof. Marija Strojnik, Astrophysicist and Distinguished Professor at Optical Research Center, Mexico to our college on 15th October. She enlightened students with her talk on 'Autonomous Navigation System with Intelligent Camera for Space and Earth'. Prof. Marija Strojnik is best known for developing an autonomous system for optical navigation based on CCD technology which is currently used in nearly all commercial aircraft and numerous spacecraft. The talk was followed by a motivational interaction with the students. Later on, she inspected the projects of the SPIE students which was quite fascinating to her. SPIE members had a great day with her and no doubt it was inspiring to the students aspiring to be a future scientist.

FACULTY ADVISOR

Dr. Amit Garg (Associate Professor) specializes in laser material interaction and Science Education and serving the chapter for 10 years.. He has published 55 research papers, 10 books, attended many International conferences abroad, chaired technical session , jury member for INSPIRE programme, reviewer of six international journals and fellow of SPIE, USA. He is the Principal investigator of a Innovative project funded by Delhi University with 5 completed research projects, faculty adviser of SPIE student chapter. He has been awarded Meritorious Teacher’s Award (2012-13) with a cash prize of Rs.1,00,000/- of Directorate of Higher Education, Government of NCT of Delhi, recipient of second Prize of Rs.40000/- by Ministry of Earth Sciences, GOI  for his book Tsunami Lahron Ka Kehar with biographical profile published in Who’s Who in the World.
